Troubleshooting

Logging

The Newsletter module uses log4net to log progress during the complete send process. Turn on debug logging in your episerverlog.config file to help troubleshoot errors in the module.

Turning on debug logging will enable quite a lot of noise in your log file. You can create a separate log file for the Newsletter module with this section in your episerverlog.config file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<log4net>
    <appender name="NewsletterAppender"
              type="log4net.Appender.FileAppender">
        <file value="newsletter-log.txt" />
        <appendToFile value="true" />
        <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
            <conversionPattern value="%date %level [%thread] %type.%method - %message%n" />
        </layout>
    </appender>

    <logger name="BVNetwork.EPiSendMail">
        <level value="Debug" />
        <appender-ref ref="NewsletterAppender" />
    </logger>
</log4net>

Extended logging

To log detailed messages for troubleshooting creation and sending problems, add the following to your <appSettings> section:

<add key="EPsSendMailExtendedLogFile"
             value="newsletter-extended-log.txt" />

It will create a detailed log file in the root of your web site. The logging is very verbose, and should only be enabled for troubleshooting purposes.
