Request timed out

Reported by: jonathanssewell@… Owned by: alexander@…
Priority: major Component: LinkDetective

Description

When starting LinkDetective on a live/staging site it times out with the error below. I have run the source code on my development machine and it takes a long time to process around 250 external links. It doesn't time out on my development machine but I assume that's because it's running in the Visual Studio development server.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Some more notes on this issue:

On the local development website, setting debug="false" in the web.config for the compilation element will reproduce the timeout error.

I have managed to get around this by increasing the value of HttpContext.Current.Server.ScriptTimeout in the CheckLinksByHTTP() method:

private void CheckLinksByHTTP()

{

HttpContext.Current.Server.ScriptTimeout = RemainingLinks.Count*30;

...etc
